This essay will give you a brief overview of the Ukrainian educational system which is continuously changing due to the requirements of the transition period. Nowadays one of the most important aim for central and local authorities is to give equal possibilities in getting top quality education for all citizens. The system of education extends from pre-school to higher education and every level (preschool, primary, secondary, higher and postgraduate) has its own advantages and disadvantages.

The American system of school education differs from the systems in other countries. There are state public schools, private elementary schools and private secondary schools. Public schools are free and private schools are fee-paying. Each state has its own system of public schools. Americans place a high value on education. That's why Kennedy said, "Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education". Pre-school education is the provision of education for children before the commencement of statutory education, usually between the ages of two and five, dependent on the jurisdiction. Preschool is also known as nursery school, day care or kindergarten.

The federal government does not operate public schools. Each of the fifty states has its own Department of Education that sets guidelines for the schools of that state. Public schools also receive funding from the individual state, and also from local property taxes. Public colleges and universities receive funding from the state in which they are located. Each state's legislative body decides how many tax dollars will be given to public colleges and universities. Students in grades 1-12 do not pay tuition.
