London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and cultural centre. It's one of the largest cities in the world. Its population is more than million people. London is situated on the river Thames. The city is very old and beautiful. It was founded more than two thousand years ago. Traditionally London is divided into several parts: the City, the West End, the East End and Westminster. The City is the oldest part of London, its financial and business centre. The heart of the City is the Stock Exchange. Westminster is the most important part of the capital. It's the administrative centre.

In London, one can see architecture of different centuries and styles. It is inseparably connected with the history of the city. The Romans, the Saxons and the Danes settled here in turn, after them came the Normans, and brought the French civilisation. London survived the Plague and the Great Fire, which followed in 1666. During the Fire all wooden houses were smashed to the ground and a New London, London of stone with bigger houses and wider streets was built. During the World War II, many buildings of great historic value lay in ruins and today the face of London is changed.

Covent Garden is located in the eastern part of London's Westminster. Once there was a pasture of Westminster Abbey, and later vegetable market.
Market over time has grown in size and moved to the other side of the Thames, and in its place arose trade stalls and boutiques oriented to tourists.
Covent Garden is also known for its mimes and street performers that gather crowds of spectators with fun ideas. Here you can meet and acrobats, and jugglers and clowns, and musicians, and other talented people. According to Medieval chronicler Geoffrey of Monmouth, today’s city of London was founded by Brutus of Troy, a Trojan War hero who named the city Caer Troia (New Troy), giving the British a sense of pride in their ‘mythical’ origin, until the era of the English poet John Milton (1608–1664). The area of London was first settled by the Trinovantes, and later the Romans. It is said that after the town was named Caer Troia, it was renamed CaerLudein by King Lud in 73 BC, which was eventually changed to ‘London’. Geoffrey adorned the history of ancient London with many legendary kings and myths.
